About a year ago I saw a sign in my area advertising a big consignment sale, being held in a local private school. Andrew was only about six months old at the time and I was looking to buy a used jumperoo for him. I went to the sale, apparently too late, because as I pulled up I saw a woman walking a jumperoo to her car. It was the last one! I did manage to purchase a cute bathing suit diaper combo and a few other little things. The sale is held twice a year, so for the summer sale, I consigned a few things, including the jumperoo that I ended up buying from someone on Craigslist.com. I made about $60 and was hooked on being a consignor. The winter sale was held this past weekend and I was able to sell a number of things again, including the co-sleeper that Andrew rarely slept in as an infant and a bunch of clothes (including the swim diaper I bought last year--he only wore it a handful of times.) I haven't received payment yet, but I went to pick up my unsold items and my pile was small, so I hope that means I did well. I didn't buy too much this time either, but I did manage to score a few good things. The puzzles are probably ones to put away for a while since the pieces are small, but they are Melissa and Doug brand and wooden and in perfect condition. For three bucks, unresistable. The little argyle vest by Hartstrings saves me from either making one or buying new and spending triple the price of $12, and it included the matching polo shirt. The old navy shorts and bathing suit were brand new with tags and a steal, although I wonder if someone bought them at the outlet and upped the price by a dollar?? The little blue shortalls with boats was too cute to resist for $4!
I had been looking to find a cozy coupe for Andrew, but didn't see any there. They are these huge plastic cars that kids can drive outdoors. They are made of plastic, so I feel better buying a used one to recycle. I will have to keep checking craigslist or our local consignment shops for one.
Consigning seems to be a great way to recycle good toys and clothes. Besides it being more environmentally friendly, it is great in this crazy economic time! It certainly was fun to browse the merchandise!
Andrew and I have had colds for the past week. My has turned into a sinus infection and pink eye--such joy! Andrew developed/caught pink eye from me and started showing symptoms yesterday while at the playground. Trying to get eye drops in him is IMPOSSIBLE!!!! Hopefully something is landing in his eye and it will go away. We stayed home from tumbling today because of it and his constant dripping nose. He is just miserable and isn't napping well. I need to set up his humidifier in his room again--I had borrowed it for myself. Maybe I need two! I am hoping Chris stays healthy!
I knit an egg. It was super easy and fast. I need to dig out odds and ends of yarn to knit a few more for Easter. This one is out of a the worst yarn ever, despite being a great color blend--Red Heart. I think it is one of the first yarns I ever bought, although I'm not sure what I ever knit with it and I only had a tiny ball of it left.
