So it's the middle of summer already and we are finally getting some veggie production!
We enjoyed our first tomato last week, but all the others are still green. We have two cucumbers that are almost ready for picking and lots of tiny ones still growing. That cucumber plant was an afterthought when I realized I didn't have any seeds left. I bought one plant, that had three sprouts. It has taken over the garden! I keep pulling it off the tomato plants so that it doesn't interfere with them. It has covered the carrots, which continue to grow, but I'm not sure they are getting enough sun.
The green beans have also taken over, and keep producing lots of leaves and shoots that curlicue around everything, but I haven't spotted a single bean yet! The pea plants were eaten by local critters twice before I finally had the chance to fence in the garden. Today I discovered our first pea pods!
I picked the one that was sticking out of the fence so that the critters (squirrels, chipmunks, and one very large groundhog delight in our yard with the abundance of goodies!) I was showing the monkey boy the pea pod and though we could share it by picking out the peas, but before I could blink... It was declared delicious.
