So my monkey boy is four and wanted an Imagination Movers party. The pinata I shared last week was a small part of it. We had appropriate music playing, fun instruments for the kids to play, lots of balloons, and lots of cake. If you've never seen the show, the Imagination Movers are a fun band that plays preschool music with an influence of rock, like U2! They appeal to the parents and the kids, which is nice because so much of the preschool music out there gets tiring. The show, the Imagination Movers, centers on the band having to solve a problem, or idea emergency, by brainstorming a solution. It's a great way to teach little kids how to problem solve. They work in the Idea Warehouse, which is filled with rooms for just about everything you could imagine.
We turned our house into the idea warehouse for the party day and even had a map of where the kids could find the fun. We had a music room, a craft room, a cake room, and a dining room. For a craft the kids decorated idea boxes with stickers. Each pencil box had a notepad, pencil, crayons, sunglasses, and magnifying glass/whistle to help with idea emergencies. The craft area became the Balloon Room, which amazed me at just how violent a bunch of little kids can become when you unload four bags of balloons on them! They had a blast, and even though the birthday boy got socked in the eye(s) with balloons, he loved it. We still have balloons floating through the house!
The pinata was a hit and the bags of candy and treats the kids left with were overflowing. We did the pinata inside since the yard was muddy from the deluge of rain we had for the past two months! Thanks to Uncle Eric for being the tall man to hold the pinata!
We had cake and cupcakes, however the birthday boy would have been completely content with a big bowl of buttercream icing, forget the cake! He licked the cupcakes clean! I made the cake in a gear shape using a snowflake cake pan I bought at least ten years ago and never used. I made one vanilla layer using Smitten Kitchen's Best Birthday Cake recipe and I also made a chocolate layer using my favorite Hershey's Especially Dark Chocolate cake recipe.
All in all, I think he had a blast. He has asked if he can have another Imagination Movers party for his number five birthday!
